A real village laundry, Rp2,000 a wash, run by Bu Yati. Indonesia could not stop asking if it was real.
77% of Indonesians still wash clothes by hand. So we opened a real one: Laundry Majapahit, Rp2,000 a wash, released as an unexplained TikTok mystery.
Once the country was invested, Phase 2 dropped. Rinso stepped in to upgrade Bu Yati’s laundry, joining the story instead of interrupting it.
A trusted but forgotten detergent became a Gen Z conversation again, with sales up 200% and GMV up to three times over.
A communal clothesline in a public lot, run by Miss Donna. The only thing provided free on site: Molto.
Nobody buys softener because of an ad. They buy it after catching the scent of a neighbor’s laundry drying in the sun.
So we staged that exact moment. Jemuran Umum: a numbered public clothesline, open to anyone, kept fragrant with Molto and filmed native, POV-style.
Sixteen days, zero paid media. Warganet screenshotted, debated, and reposted it themselves, and Molto returned to number one in its category.
